Job purpose
Wait staff are responsible for ensuring an exceptional dining experience by providing excellent customer service, taking orders, serving food and beverages, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Greet guests in a friendly, courteous manner and guide them to their tables
- Present menus, answer questions, and make recommendations based on customers’ preferences
- Take accurate food and drink orders and relay them to kitchen staff promptly
- Serve orders efficiently and ensure that dishes are delivered as per restaurant standards
- Check with customers throughout their meals to ensure satisfaction and address any issues
- Prepare and serve non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages as required, ensuring responsible service practices
- Clear tables, reset for the next guests, and assist in maintaining cleanliness throughout the dining area
- Process payments and handle cash, credit, or debit transactions accurately
- Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment for staff and patrons
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including stocking supplies and cleaning as required
Qualifications
- Previous experience as wait staff or in a similar customer service role is preferred
- Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality role preferred but not required
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Basic math skills for handling cash and processing payments
- Knowledge of food and beverage items, including understanding of dietary restrictions and allergies
- Responsible Beverage Service certification (such as Smart Serve, Serving It Right) is an asset
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs

- Ability to ensure orders are correct, tables are set properly, and guests’ needs are met consistently.
- Ability to handle customer complaints, resolve issues quickly, and adapt to unexpected situations.
- Working effectively with kitchen staff and other servers to ensure a smooth dining experience.
- Comfort with handling transactions, calculating tips, and processing payments accurately.
- Adhering to food safety regulations and maintaining cleanliness to ensure a safe dining environment.
- Familiarity with menu items, specials, and dietary information to confidently make recommendations.
Working conditions / Physical requirements
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and carry trays of food and beverages
