Job purpose
The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales, and ensuring a positive shopping experience for all customers. This role involves assisting customers with product selection, processing transactions, maintaining a clean and organized store environment, and contributing to the achievement of store sales targets. The Retail Sales Associate is a key representative of the brand, promoting products and services while building strong customer relationships.
Duties and responsibilities
Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and offer assistance with product selection and inquiries.
- Provide product knowledge and recommendations to meet customer needs and preferences.
- Handle customer complaints and issues professionally, escalating to the Store Manager when necessary.
Sales and Product Promotion
- Achieve and exceed individual and store sales targets through proactive selling techniques.
- Upsell and cross-sell products to maximize sales and enhance the customer shopping experience.
- Stay informed about current promotions, new products, and sales events to effectively promote them to customers.
Transaction Processing
- Accurately process sales transactions, returns, and exchanges using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions securely, ensuring accuracy and adherence to store policies.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and reconciliation.
Store Maintenance and Merchandising
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment, including product displays and shelves.
- Restock merchandise as needed and ensure products are correctly labeled and priced.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving shipments and conducting stock checks.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve store goals and provide excellent customer service.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving sales and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with training new team members and share product knowledge and sales techniques.
Product Knowledge
- Stay up-to-date with product features, benefits, and industry trends to provide accurate information to customers.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance product knowledge and sales skills.
- Act as a brand ambassador, representing the store’s values and promoting a positive image to customers.
Operational Support
- Assist with store operations, including opening and closing tasks, housekeeping, and inventory management.
- Follow store policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.
- Support promotional activities, such as in-store events and product launches.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in retail, sales, or related fields is a plus.
- Previous retail sales experience is preferred, but not required.
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on building positive customer relationships.
Competency and Skill Requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Strong sales skills, with a proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets.
- Proficiency in using POS systems and handling cash transactions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- A positive, energetic attitude and a passion for retail and customer service.
Working conditions / Physical requirements
There are special working conditions for this position.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry merchandise and equipment as needed (up to 30 lbs).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on store needs.
